GMG Radio has received six nominations in the prestigious 2012 New York Festivals International Radio Program and Promotion Awards, which celebrate excellence in radio across the world.
The latest nominations, which were announced at the weekend, come hot on the heels of last week’s seven nominations at the Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards and the group’s record nine short-listings in the Sony Radio Academy Radio Awards, the winners of which will be announced tonight (Monday).
The highlights of Smooth Radio’s exclusive Love Live Music listener events were broadcast in ‘The Best of Love Live Music 2011’ which has been shortlisted in the New York Festival’s Best Music Special category, while the station’s Marianne Faithful – In Her Own Words, hosted by Andy Peebles, is nominated for the Culture and Arts Award.
Real Radio’s Cocaine Unwrapped – a special investigation into the presence of cocaine in public places across the North West which unveiled shocking results – has earned GMG Radio a place in the Best News Documentary or Special category.
In Wales, sister Real Radio’s programme, titled ‘Tribute to the miners: The moment Welsh hearts were broken’ has also been shortlisted for the Best News Documentary or Special Award.
Walking With The Wounded – a special documentary broadcast on both Smooth and Real Radio which charted the progress of a group of wounded British soldiers as they attempted to trek to the geographic North Pole unaided has won GMG Radio two nominations in the Heroes and Best Editing categories.
GMG Radio Chief Executive Stuart Taylor said: “This is further recognition of the high quality programming on Smooth and Real Radio, which consistently delivers creative content to 5.6 million listeners a week*.”
GMG Radio’s Group Programme Director John Simons said: “With entries from 27 countries this year it is great to have our programming recognised on a world stage.
